The town of Yirgacheffe in Southern Ethiopia is one of the best places in the world to source elegant, crisp, fully washed coffees. This is one of those coffees. We've been roasting the natural process of this coffee for 3 years, so we're delighted to now bring you the fully washed version as well.
The Konga mill, just outside the town of Yirgacheffe, is supplied by approximately 600 small-holder growers who grow coffee in their back gardens. What gives this coffee its elegance and complexity is an altitude of 1950-2100 metres above sea level, and a climate and typography that is perfectly suited to growing coffee. The mill has masses of experience in processing using this method, particularly under the guidance of long-term mill manager Mr Merkuriya Merga.
You should expect plenty of peach, and a citrusy kick as well. There's plenty of the classic Ethiopian caramel there too, as well as some delicate floral flavours as well, and it reminds us of iced tea. It'll shine in filter brew methods, and in cafetière, but it'll need careful dialling in for espresso. We're so happy it's ours, and to share with you.
